"1st ALPE ADRIA HEMATOLOGY MEETING" IN GRAZ, AUSTRIA:
THE SPARK FOR MULTI-NATIONAL SCIENTIFIC EXCHANGE AND
FUTURE CROSS-BORDER COLLABORATIONS.

The inaugural Alpe Adria Hematology Meeting, hosted by Ass-Prof. Dr. Andreas Reinisch, PhD and Univ. Prof. Dr. Heinz Sill on the Campus of the Medical University of Graz, Austria proved to be a resounding success. Hematologists and researchers from 4 different countries (Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia) within the Alpe-Adria region visited Graz to present the highlights of their current research programs and more importantly to network, exchange ideas and spin the framework for future collaborative multi-national projects in the field of hematology.

More than 90 attendees were listening to engaging presentations by speaker coming from the Medical Universities of Graz, Ljubljana, Trieste, Udine and Zagreb. The presentations covered a diverse range of topics including hematologic malignancies, diagnostic techniques, and new emerging therapies. Lively and interactive round table discussions after the individual sessions fostered a dynamic atmosphere and layed the groundwork for future collaborative research initiatives that will hopefully transcend borders and disciplines.

The scientific highlight of the 2-day meeting was the keynote lecture by Prof. Jean-Emmanuel Sarry from Toulouse (FRA), who provided insights on the novel mechanism responsible for developing resistance in acute myeloid leukemia.

Overall, this 1st Alpe Adria Hematology Meeting clearly showcased the collective commitment to increase the clinical and scientific exchange between all participating institutions.

“We are eagerly awaiting the first collaborative project to be sparked by our inaugural event”, say Reinisch and Sill. The success of this endeavor will be at latest evaluated at the 2nd Alpe-Adria Meeting, to be held in Trieste (ITA) in March 2025.
