Teaching Video: Collection of Intestinal Mucosal Supernatants

This video describes how to collect mediators spontaneously released by mucosal biopsies (mucosa supernatants). This methodology offers a translational approach to gain further insights into the impact of mucosal mediators of different pathological conditions (dyspepsia, IBS, IBD) on bowel physiology and visceral perception.

Society News: Polish Neurogastroenterology and Motility Group – a newly affiliated society of ESNM

The Polish Neurogastroenterology and Motility Group has become fully affiliated to ESNM in April. The formal reactivation of the Group in the structures of the Polish Society of Gastroenterology took place in 2015. Historically, there are several important Polish traces in the European community of researchers studying the brain-gut axis interactions. Prof. Stanisław Konturek, the Polish nestor of gastroenterology, had been one of the founding members of the ESNM.

Society News: Israeli Neurogastroenterology Group Organized  a Seminar on High Resolution Esophageal Manometry and pH Monitoring

We are happy to report that the Israeli Neurogastroenterology group held a very comprehensive and fruitful meeting aimed at designing a common form for reporting results of High Resolution Manometry and esophageal pH-impedance studies.

Society News: Annual Meeting of the French Group of  Neurogastroenterology

More than 120 participants and 25 industrial partners attended to the annual meeting in June in Nantes. Organized by Michel Neunlist, Malvyne Rolli-Derkinderen, Emmanuel Coron and Stanislas Bruley des Varannes, the theme was the regulation of the intestinal epithelial barrier by the microenvironment: importance of the enteric nervous system.

Society News: Biennial Meeting of the Rumanian Society of  Neurogastroenterology

Since 2005, the Romanian Society of Neurogastroenterology organizes biennial congresses under the name of NeurogastRO, all with international participation. This years meeting was held in Iasi, together with the Rome Foundation Central and East European Meeting. The specialists in functional gastrointestinal disorders and in digestive motility gathered together with the Faculty of the Rome Foundation and other experts to discuss the recent progress in the field and the new Rome IV criteria.

Mistakes in GORD diagnosis and how to avoid them

According to the Montreal definition, “[gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD)] is a condition which develops when the reflux of stomach contents causes troublesome symptoms and/or complications.” GORD has a negative effect on quality of life and is frequently encountered in clinical practice, with an estimated prevalence of around 24% in Europe. In the US, GORD-related healthcare costs account for $9 billion per year.

Guided by PD Dr. Pohl, 63 attendants participated in this successful event. The scientific program rotated around three main topics: “Microbiome and Irritable Bowel Syndrome”, “Gastroesophageal Reflux and Esophageal Dysmotility” and “Placebo and Food Intolerance”. read more
